The enchanted world children live in often envisions life in terms of stories with insights and lessons that can be profound. Unfortunately, as we grow older many of us lose these insights. As everyday experiences disenchant the world, these stories were inspired by a loving grandchild who saw the world with such imagination and understanding that they deserved to be remembered and never lost over the horizon of years. The stories were our gift from her, written down and given back to her so that they might not be lost. Like all true gifts they are, as well, for everyone. We hope you too rediscover and embrace that enchanted world within all of us.
Deb and Pete
Originally from Pennsylvania, Deb and her British husband Pete, currently live on a small farm near the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. They enjoy the simplicity of their rural lifestyle and take pleasure in the daily antics of their horse Colonel, half dozen rowdy barn cats and a large but friendly black snake they’ve affectionately named “Licorice”. The story “A Hot Dog Stand in the Himalayas” began as a diary for their granddaughter. A way for her to remember all of the adventures they had before moving south. Her book embraces the “It is if you believe it is” credo she and Pete live by and have instilled in their kids and grandchild.
Deb is currently working on her next book, “A Pizzeria in Pago-Pago”, that explore the adventures of Sammie’s daughter Krista. Krista is an articulate and whimsical child that some would say has an empathic sensibility towards life far beyond her years. Krista’s grandparents Nina, her husband Professor Tucker Chapman Bernard and Tucker’s oddball aunt Mona Moon-Rae will play a large part in keeping her in check.
Grandmom and pop-pop always told me if you can dream it, you can live it. I once told grandmom that I dreamt I had a palace in India, so grandmom and I built one out of boxes, playing blocks and bed sheets. Afterwards, I told her it was nice but it wasn’t a real palace. She told me, “Sammie, it is if you believe it is.” My grandparents and I built many dreams together. My special memories and stories pay tribute to their never ending dreams.
