Among Us begins in Tanzania, Africa where Alex grows up in the shadow of his mysterious and feared father. It is upon the death of his father that Alex is drawn into a supernatural and evil world of witches and black magic and is forced to escape in order to maintain control of his own life.
From a tiny village in Tanzania to America, Alex struggles to hold on to his identity in a world increasingly bizarre and surreal. Through work, love, fatherhood and loss, the claims of his past inevitably bring him back to Africa, where the tentacles of his father reach out to take away, in horrifying brutality all that is dear to his heart.
This tale of physical and emotional survival gives us inspiration and insight into the power of an individual, even when faced with unspeakable evil.

The day was going fast; when we went to the open area the sun was bright and it was hot. Back in the woods the guy asked me what I wanted to do. I hesitated, because I thought he was tricking me. Then I thought, what more do I have to lose. I had already lost two of my children, and by then Daniella was likely dead too. So I told the guy I wanted to escape. He looked at me and asked if I was sure, and I said yes.

He walked me farther into the woods and gave me some directions toward the road. He told me to go as far as I could, because as soon as they realized I was gone, they were going to start a search. He told me to stay near the road when I reach it, but he warned me not to walk in the open. He then gave me the direction that would lead me to a parish. He said there were few cars passing by and most of them were the missionary cars, going back and forth to the parish. He also warned me that they might use my car for the search, and so if I was to stop a car, I should be careful and make sure it was not them. As I was about to leave, he called me and asked if I knew I had a son in my village. It was big and very suprising news, but I did not have time to let it sink in, and he did not have time to explain.

I left, still pretending to be collecting wood as I went farther into the woods. When I had gotten far enough, I left the wood I was carrying and started running
