The children and descendants of Gertrude (Rambo) Bankson, Peter Gunnarson Rambo's second child and eldest daughter are delineated in this third volume of the Rambo Family Tree series (the only volume currently available).  Up through 1850 all the Bankson and Bankston families in the United States are believed to be descended from Gertrude and her husband, Andrew Bankson (spelled Andreas Bengtsson in the Swedish records).  Andrew and Gertrude lived in Moyamensing along the Delaware River in present South Philadelphia.  Andrew became a large landowner, a church warden, a court justice, and was elected to the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1683.  This volume lists all their children and many generations of descendants, although generally no people still living will be recorded herein.

Bankson and Bankston are the primary surnames in this book although extended families are recorded by daughters who married Allen, Crosby, Dyson, Hambrick, Hill, Irvin, Lawrence, Mason, Mozley, Richardson, Ridgely and Robertson husbands.

A third edition of this genealogy is being compiled as you read this.  Please help to improve this genealogy by sending me corrections, additions and improvements.  With your help, the third edition can be even better. rsbeatty@gmail.com

Nearly all of the Rambo families in the United States are descended from one common ancestor: Peter Gunnarson Rambo, who landed on the shores of the Delaware River in 1640 at what is now Wilmington, Delaware.  This history of the Rambo family describes Peter and his six children and lists their descendants who can be found in every state of the Union.  Some of the family lines have been extended to the 12th generation with their children comprising the 13th generation.

Thanks.  Ron Beatty, July 2007

Ron Beatty discovered a passion for genealogy thirty years ago when he interrupted a motorcycle trip to visit his Aunt Verla in Sun City, Arizona.  His notion was that he "make" a Christmas present for his brother & sister by typing Verla's materials.  Verla accepted Ron's offer to type and a week later they were both worn out.

Ron is now in his third retirement and is still pursuing those elusive ancestors.  His genealogical research benefits from his love of travel (still motorcycling); his years of experience with the courts (as systems analyst); and his advanced computer skills.  Ron has always loved puzzles and genealogy is the granddaddy of them all.

At the moment, Ron is engaged in hiking the Appalachian Trail and is in Hot Springs, NC: mile 286 of 2176.  If you live near the trail and wish to meet him, he will welcome any opportunity to "resupply" with food such as a ride into town for a bag of trail mix.  rsbeatty@gmail.com

2.  GERTRUDE RAMBO was born 19 Oct 1650 in Kingsessing, New Sweden and married ANDERS BENGTSSON on 22 Nov 1668.  Anders Bengtsson was born in 1640 in Fåxarn parish [now Fuxerna parish], northeast of Gothenburg, Sweden, and sailed to New Sweden on the ship Mercurius in 1656.  Anders was a large land owner in New Sweden, wrote his own name as Andreas Bengtsson, and was known in the English records as Andrew Bankson.  The family lived in Moyamensing, along the Delaware River in present South Philadelphia.  Andreas was a church warden, trustee, and lay reader of the Wicaco church, and contributed faithfully to the support of the clergy.  Anders Bengtsson was also politically active, serving as a justice on the New Court at Upland 1681-82, 1693, and 1701-03, and being elected to the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1683, 1686 and 1698.  As a member of the Assembly he witnessed the charter of Pennsylvania on 2 Apr 1683.  By the time of his death in 1705, he owned substantial property south of Philadelphia in Moyamensing and Passyunk townships and "five hundred acres in the Swedes' tract at Manatawny [Amity Township, present Berks County], patented to him on 11 June 1705 (Phila. Exemplification Book 1:636-637; Patents, A-3:209).  This land [in Manatawny] was sold by his sons to John Oakley on 13 Oct. 1707. (Phila. deeds)." Anders Bengtsson drowned in the Delaware River and was buried at Gloria Dei Church (Wicaco) on 14 Sep 1705.  His wife survived him.  The children of Anders and Gertrude (Rambo) Bengtsson follow:
