The project to gain Earth’s ratification into the Dil-Terra Interplanetary Alliance has stalled. Doubts assail renowned Chikondran diplomat, Minister Warnach Sirinoya, when he meets Sandra Warner, the young Terran administrative specialist assigned to help steer the massive project back on course. Never could he have imagined their first rocky encounter would alter the direction of his life, ushering him from private turmoil and personal disgrace. Neither could he have dreamed that she would inexplicably draw him into legendary mysteries on his own world.

Sandra Warner strives to prove herself while refusing to allow her family’s disapproval or tragic events to derail her goal of building a diplomatic career. Intelligent, driven, and sensitive, she surprisingly finds empathy with the difficult Minister Sirinoya.

Two people from different planets and dramatically diverse backgrounds balance unexpected turns in their relationship with cultural differences, demanding careers, lofty dreams, and personal sorrows. Those dynamics are woven into a fascinating tapestry of fear and conflict, triumph and love.

Sandra Valencia has lived her entire life in the state of Ohio.  Growing up in a simple home with two brothers and two sisters, she always loved books. When classmates groaned over writing assignments, she relished new chances to put pencil to paper. Also captivated by studies of foreign languages, she has studied several languages and enjoys added zest in her life from traveling abroad to meet new people and personally experience the wealth of different ideas and cultures.

From early childhood, she encountered a dramatic range of experiences commonly grouped into a category called paranormal activity.  Dreams, visions, precognition, and telekinesis are among only a few of the things that have sometimes frightened her, sometimes inspired her, and always fascinated her.  Those experiences provide a treasure chest of ideas and concepts that are often included in her writing.

Ms. Valencia consolidated two decades of dreams into the series, Legends from Turand.  She has been both surprised and gratified to be contacted by readers from around the world, including Colombia, England, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, and Portugal. Descriptions from readers of Song of Turand and Return to Turand include comments such as:

“Use of vivid imagery makes the novel a joy to read.”

“One reading is not enough!”

“Truly inspirational…”

“So vividly described, one feels a part [of the story].”

Married for more than three decades, she is the mother of two dynamic sons who challenge her intellectually and spiritually. Besides writing and travel, she greatly enjoys classical and Latin music. Favorite hobbies include: entertaining friends and family, doll collecting. camping, and exploring the many aspects of esoteric phenomena.

Without thinking, he reached out and curled his fingers around those of her left hand. The splint protecting her wrist provided unnecessary reminder of the danger she had escaped. “Sandra, I admire the courage in your soul. Almost as much as I admire the integrity and love that are so integral to who you are.” He paused before speaking again in a voice ready to choke on sorrow swelling inside him. “I’ve traveled so long and so far, yet never have I known anyone like you. You’ve awakened feelings I once thought dead. I love you, Sandra…far too much to risk your safety.”

She watched carefully as his face fell. Elegant fingers gently caressed hers as he avoided facing her again. Tears stung her eyes. Where were the words that might comfort him…reassure him?

His name escaped on a sob. “Warnach, you can’t blame yourself.  You know as well as I that there’s no way to completely avoid illogical hatreds and prejudices existing not only on Earth but across this entire sector of the galaxy. Thankfully, progress is being made, mostly by people like you who dedicate entire lives to negotiating peace and demonstrating the good that comes from valuing all life. Warnach, please. This isn’t the time to surrender to hatred.”

Hearing fear in her voice, he lifted sad eyes. How lovely she looked despite her ordeal. And the conviction suffusing her words. His soul desperately wanted to cling to her strength and determination that refused to submit to the kind of people who had captured her.  However, he had spent the entire night grappling with the decision he believed was unavoidable. Closing his eyes for a prolonged moment, pain tensed his features before he found courage to reply.

“How I wish I could make you understand. You’re so young, so full of passion and ideals. Your future holds promises beyond anything you’ve even dreamed, but not one of those dreams can become reality if you should die. Two weeks ago, I dared to believe there might be hope for us to be together. When you disappeared, I was forced to confront the reality that I might lose you. Only two days ago, that possibility nearly became tragedy I could not have borne. The danger is real. I love you too much to take the risk. Please. Try to understand.”

He wanted to shut his eyes tightly, to escape her image before him. Her face had grown deathly pale. Silent tears slid from the corners of her eyes. Lips he loved to kiss quivered. Fingers he still held trembled within his grasp.

“Warnach,” she whispered, “avoiding danger is impossible. One must keep faith…in one’s self, in loved ones, and in God. Death will surely come some day, somehow. It’s how we live our lives in the meantime that counts.

“If I hadn’t escaped…if they had killed me…I would have died thankful for every single minute I ever spent with you. Life is constantly filled with treasures most people never see or recognize. Why? Because those treasures are bound up not in years but in minutes and even seconds. I cherish every moment we’ve had together.

“When I was most afraid, I closed my eyes and remembered the way you’ve always said my name. Sometimes, I thought I actually heard you calling my name. Your voice inside my mind revived treasured memories, and those memories renewed my inspiration to survive. Please, Warnach, don’t decide this right now. Not like this. Give me a few days to go home and get on my feet. We need time to discuss this. Warnach?”
