When the Cage Dies, the Bird Lives, consists of the author’s own artwork and thoughts that invite soulful contemplation.

The book is meant to be a celebration, carrying the message that our bodies are mere cages housing the undying spirit that lies within.

Salee Eileen Reese, MSSW, ACSW, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker, practicing as a psychotherapist for nearly two decades. She has counseled people experiencing a wide range of emotional struggles, including those going through the heartbreak and the fears associated with life’s final chapter. Salee presents numerous workshops and writes a weekly column for The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette called Life Changes.

Salee resides in a peaceful, rural setting—among mossy frog ponds and katydids—near Fort Wayne, Indiana.

What inspired me to write this book:

Throughout my life, I’ve had to say goodbye to numerous loved ones.
Although painful, those experiences seasoned my soul with compassion
and insight, moving me to create this book.

Getting older presents

many challenges and heartbreaks

like having to adjust to a withering body,

and

having to tell ourselves over and over

that we’re not our body.

Identifying with the body

can only lead to distress.

The body is the cage

that houses us during our

sojourn here…

That’s All  it is!
