The Wedding of Q and U is geared for the early elementary years and will serve as a wonderful teaching tool! Young readers and spellers will have a creative way to remember the spelling rule of the letters Q and U. The idea to write this book was inspired by the author’s very own teaching experiences. Beginning in 2001, and during each subsequent year of teaching first grade and Kindergarten, Denise Hreha’s students performed a mock wedding in the classroom. Thus, her students never forgot that the letter Q is followed by the letter U, in almost all words. From the adorable, colorful illustrations, to the teachable moments throughout this book, primary school teachers will love to share this story with their students. Now every class can experience a wedding of their own!
About the Author
Dr. Denise Dillon-Hreha is a special education teacher in Howell, New Jersey. She has been an elementary school educator for the past thirteen years. Denise has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education/English in 1996 and a Master’s Degree in Special Education in 2001 from Kean University. In 2007, she earned her Doctorate Degree from Seton Hall University. She is certified to become a school principal or supervisor. Denise has taught as an adjunct professor at the graduate level. Her three young children have been an inspiration to many of her ideas. She has been reading to each of them since birth, hoping to share and instill in them, her love of reading. The illustrator, Sheri Mathews, has been a friend for many, many years through high school and college.
About the Illustrator
Sheri Mathews is graphic artist ten years in the making. She has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in the Graphic Arts in 1996 from Kean University, and has been working in the field ever since. This has been her first experience with illustrating and looks forward toward the continuing journey.
