Cecily Westbrook is a Jamaican and African American mixed, 27 year-old female. She is beautiful, intelligent, has a good job and a gorgeous boyfriend. She is independent, lives alone and is very private. Cecily is a simple, yet complex person. Her one and only dilemma is that she has no idea why the love of her life has become the latest statistic in the missing persons file, or has he? After years of numerous failed relationships, Cecily realizes that she has been tied emotionally to several meaningless relationships. When her current boyfriend ceases to exist, Cecily chugs all of her conventional attitudes in the trashcan and goes for an excursion on the wild side. She encounters some old-world and new world things with acquaintances as well as strangers. She fears losing touch with herself in the may lay, and struggles to keep the essence of who she really is in tact. But while abandoning all of her senses, she plunges head first into an abyss of sex and wild imaginings, or is it? The novel takes curves with ease and dares the reader to sit back and relax until its surprising ending.
1963 was a very volatile time in America, but a blissful time in the home of author G.G. Davenport. Born in February of that year to striving African American parents in South Florida, she was reared with 2 sisters and three brothers. Ms. Davenport was schooled in the Palm Beach County School System, where she currently teaches reading to struggling readers. Due to her own reluctance to reading in the past, teaching reading to others has given her an appreciation for reading and its importance. “Reading was something I wasn’t that fond of, I did it but, I didn’t care for it that much. I’d just as soon write some entries in a makeshift diary of spiral bound paper and a 3-ring binder. I wrote about whatever I wanted to write about.” During her career path, Ms. Davenport acquired a B.A. in Radio and Television Broadcasting. And after working a brief time in a television station she quickly found that the media industry was not where she wanted to be. “Mass Media unfortunately tends to thrive on the negative aspects of life with little emphasis on the positive. Writing has allowed me the opportunity to explore what’s good in life, different emotions and feelings.”
I know some of you are thinking what the hell is she doing flirting with her married boss? Well, I''ve got this under control. I''m no fool. I know that my place is definitely off limits for dinner with him. That’s all I need, him telling everyone at the office about my place, no way. I wouldn''t take that creep to my dog''s house. And besides, it''s a mess, and I do remember first impressions are everlasting. Plus, there were too many good memories of Ricardo and me to mess them up with the likes of him. I refer to my apartment as Sacred Ground. It is reserved for the very special at heart. If you are fortunate enough to cross those gates, you are unique, and possess a right to passage.
The nature of the beast called man is to do the hunting, but some men cannot handle being hunted. And Mr. James is one of them. He will probably back out of dinner this time gracefully, because he’s a manly man who was caught off guard by my acceptance to dinner with him. He probably thinks something is up, and he doesn''t trust me. So by the time he works up the nerve to approach me again, I''ll know exactly what to do by then. I promise, I won''t disappoint you.
Right now it''s lunchtime and everyone has gone to lunch, even jive ass Charlie. (See, he hasn''t said a word to me about dinner, and he won''t, not today at least) As usual I stayed behind in the office for lunch. I locked the front door, and put out the gone to lunch sign for my safety. We were a small yet reputable business, and dealt with clients through appointments, so we rarely had walk-ins. I would have complete solitude until the others returned from lunch. I gathered my food from my desk drawer and started in on my feast. As I took a bite of the sandwich I ordered from a vendor, I started to reminisce about Ricardo and the last time we were together. Thinking of him made me get a funny feeling between my legs. You know the feeling, when your private parts begin to ache out of nowhere, from the inside out, when you think about a good piece you’ve had. I laid my sandwich down and reached down to touch myself and felt my panties, they were sopping wet. The word horny cannot compare to how I was feeling. I longed for Ricardo. A single tear ran down my cheek, followed by dozens more. Suddenly there was a knock at my door. When I looked up there stood fine ass Felix, the copier repairman. So much for safety, someone forgot to tell me he was in the building.
He stood there holding a pink bill, saying; “Should I leave this with you?”
I tried hard to regain my composure, but I couldn''t stop the downpour of tears on my face. All I could do at this point, so as not to scare the hell out of Felix, was put my face in my hands and try to hide the tears. My efforts were useless. I can''t speak for anyone else, but whenever you are on the verge of tears, and anyone comes around who might offer some bit of solace, their presence makes it okay to really let go and open the floodgates of emotions. That''s where I was as far as sucking up the tears goes. I had gone too far to turn around, and Felix would have to bare the brunt of it all. Lucky Felix!!!!!
