This book features approximately 500 photos of ice, snow and wood sculptures as well as sand.  Any of these sculptures could be of value to those working in the culinary profession.  Especially to chefs who want to enhance their careers.

Pictures of ice carvings provide ideas to anyone interested in competition, or those who want to do a carving for a festive occasion or maybe just for fun.

International snow sculpture competition is held in Breckenridge CO. This event takes place annually.  Details featured in book.  Eighteen teams worldwide competed in this competition in 2004.

Sand sculptures are another art form.  Some may last for weeks while others wash away with the ocean tide.   Mostly what I enjoy are watching the sandaholics trying their best to win the competition in Carmel CA. This includes children and adults working side by side.  Harrison Lake Hot Springs BC features the Masters Sculptures of the world competition.  Also there are professionals who travel the world creating beautiful sculptures.

Wood carvings of Itsyville by Blanchard in Carmel CA.  Very beautiful  and interesting to see.

Born 10/25/25 in Oceanside NY.  My father, a plumber, believed that a trade was more important than an education.  I dropped out of school at the age of 15 to work as a plumbers helper.    Due to disputes with my father I quit and became employed at Grummans Air Craft Factory.

Prior to going to work at Grummans I changed by birth certificate to 19 years of age (1925 to 1922).  Two days before my 17th birthday I attended a parade in New York City.   Duty called and I enlisted in the Navy.  After serving three years in the South Pacific I reupped in the Air Force.  At this time I began my career in food service by starting out in meat cutting and cooking.  In 1948 I was sent to a military chefs school and later to a military baking school.  I retired from the Air Force at the age of 37 in 1962.   Had many jobs after that and finally at the age of 41 received my high school diploma.  I furthered my education and graduated from UC Berkeley.  Taught Voc Ed at West Valley and Canada Colleges besides having a bakery in Saratoga CA, specializing in wedding cakes. I later moved to Sacramento CA to attend Sacramento State University, working on my masters in Voc Ed. Halfway through the program I became executive pastry chef at Highlands Inn, Carmel CA.  Several years later it was sold and I moved back to Sacramento to teach in the SETA program through Union 85.  (Free school)  Six years later the school was taken over privately and became Pacific Coast College, which no longer exists.
