Brent Watson experienced terrible tragedies during his life and found that fighting the battle to live would be rewarding.
He was given a second chance on life after a car accident in 1988. Although he survived the crash, he lost a brother and the use of his legs. He would now have to adapt to a new life as a quadriplegic.
Despite his disability, he has attained several goals that many thought would be unachievable. One of his goals was to get a journalism degree from the University of Mississippi, which he did in 1998. He has been writing professionally for nearly 10 years and has written a book that will take you through the steps of his life.
Late one night in early March of 1988, I was in a serious car accident and lost someone very close to me. In an instant I had gone from a healthy 17-year-old to someone who had lost a sibling and was strapped to a table with a collapsed lung and a fractured neck. Needless to say I was scared, confused, and in complete shock.
I mean, I thought, as most everyone else thinks; "That won’t happen to me, that happens to other people". It did happen to me, however, and I had to deal with it and go on with my life or not get a grip on it and wither away and die. Well, I decided to deal with it and I am so glad I did.
There are many people who have gone through the same type of problems that I have, and many have had much more difficult problems than I. Everyone deals with their problems differently. I just try to live my life to its fullest in my own way. My hope by telling this story is to give someone encouragement to stay strong through those tough times that come our way. And tough times pay us all a visit from some time or another.
My life has been filled with some really tough times through the years, many of which make me cringe when I think about them. My days here in this world have also been loaded with great times of which make me shake my head and grin with a pleasantry that’s really hard to put into words. I thank God for that, and for the fact that the good times in my life have by far out weighed the bad so that a smile is usually being worn on my face.
