Peace Technology

Human civilizations have gone wrong with respect to either enumeration or the order of the goods for peace. The standard by which humans ought to response to measure and control their intellect, thoughts and actions has not only misconceived and misdirected but also failed to unify the determinants of peace. The principles of utilitarianism and pattern of consumerist violent forces have been imprinted in the human minds leading to civilization decline and will ultimately result extinction of human species from the planet earth. The Peace Technology has identified seven sources of sustainable peace and worked out the modalities of exploration of sources to arouse consciousness of human race and reorient their thoughts and endeavors in all sectors of activities. So, eternal bliss of peace becomes scrutable and implementable to free the humanity from the threat of war, terrorism and other forms of violence, simultaneously redeeming the individual consciousness from his turmoil of strife, role conflicts, disequilibrium, anger, hatred and jealousy.

With strong perceptual conviction that Homo sapiens are creatures of the productive and reproductive forces of biosphere, he identifies himself first as a humble member of commonwealth of nature, a self- organizing society under universal laws.

Born in 1936 in Eastern India in a village Dumuka of Kendrapara district of the state of Orissa. Coming from a lower middle class family he faced the hardships of life which were more pronounced during the Second World War. His childhood stage had interface with the happenings of the war, some of which were heart touching and eventually stored in his memory. This was the beginning of his involution with the peace process arising from the war.

The ascent of his life continues. He received higher education in Science, Engineering and Town and Country Planning from reputed Universities of India. He began his career as an engineer, then worked as City and Regional Planner and in 1977 he was selected by Government of India to join the top civil service of the country, the Indian Administrative Service. During his life experience in different positions as a technocrat and bureaucrat, he tried to evaluate his works in terms of contribution to peace of mankind and the biosphere. Being a free and innovative thinker, he was guided by his inner wisdom that encouraged him to undertake intellectual activities relating to "Development Peace" on which there are many publications in seminars and workshops at national level. He has also to his credit four international publications (1) Socialisation of Human Settlement System : A strategy for bridging the food gap in the third World – UN conference on Human Settlement 1976 (2) Genes, Species, Ecosystems, Development and Urban Environment- Published in the book, Management of Development – Growth with Equity by Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia, 1998, published by Excel Books, India (3) "Reconnecting Man with Nature – Role of Tourism," published by Nova Science Publications, New York, USA in the book The Development of Tourism: Economic, Political, Social and Environmental Issues 1999 (4) Ecological Engineering for Wastewater Management published by International Ecological Engineering Society, Switzerland and University of Kalyani, India 2000 in the book Waste Recycling and Resource Management in the Developing Countries.

He is now fully dedicated to the process of merger of science and philosophy of peace and associated with few experimental "Project Development Peace" where peace is an integral component. His precise consciousness of autonomic physical vitality and mental responses have driven him to revolutionize convergence of scientific pursuits with philosophical thoughts for the invention of intellectual and ideological work on "Peace Technology" – the future humanized technology of the World.

Presently he is working as Professor Emeritus and Head of the Innovation Centre (EKISTICS) in Ajay Binay Institute of Technology – Piloo Mody College of Architecture, Cuttack, Orissa, India – a premier technical institute in the state of Orissa.

Peace is eluding man, although the first priority of the outputs of all his means to satisfy the needs is the peace. The man in his struggle for existence with pursuance of various endeavors has lost himself in the means and satisfied with virtual end instead of the real. But inwardly his desire for peace is not only limited to his own self, but he dreams peace for family, society, nation and for the world as a whole. The new concept of global society has further aggravated his mental perturbedness as to how this majestic humanitarian order can be manifested. The present trends like differential attitude of people, increasing gap between true knowledge and technology, declining value systems, unethical linkage between values and actions, inequal access to resources, inequity in distribution of benefits of development etc. make his future searching for peace more difficult and complex. With all these impediments, man is still very intimately attached to the concept of peace. From the most richest man to poorest man of the earth crave for peace, which the material abundance and poverty have failed to provide it. With the interaction of time- space relationships, new philosophies, technologies, ideas and idealisms are evolved and applied to correct the present disorganized structures in all sectors of human activity, but still we are not an inch nearer to peace. Neither we are able to solve the crisis to achieve peace nor we are able to break away from the legacy of past civilizations which has led us to a kind of modernity where the reptile mind is becoming more and more dominant increasing the animality in man. The tensions and conflicts both internal and external accelerate our pace towards a mirage pulling down each other instead of working towards a common goal of humanity. The consequences are of unimaginable dimension of poverty and hunger, violence, crimes, terrorism, nuclear and biological warfare, exploitation, oppression and inequality etc. This creates in us mental aberration to live in a world of corruption, immoral conduct and behavior, intolerance, communalism etc. deteriorating life-support systems with virtual self-glorification. These demonlike qualities have engulfed the human race outstripping the moral conduct and character. As a result all mitigation oriented actions are becoming fruitless. Perhaps, the key reason for such a state of affair is the failure to integrate peace as one of the critical attributes in the process of development of all sectors of human activity.

It is therefore, the need of the day to reorient our thought process for innovation of a new organic model of technological and philosophical development, which will contribute to the peace process, on which development of all other sectors will be based. It is in this context, peace is perceived as a technology of natural philosophy with convergence of techniques and intelligence of "Collective Minds". Thus a new terminology "Peace Technology" is evolved through the exploration of sources of peace, which are identified as evolution process, biosphere, human brain and mind, harmonics, environmental resources and development, societal processes and political dynamics. Connectivity and linkages are to be established between these seven sources of peace for holistic design of peace technology. The application of ideas generated from the sources of peace will enable the mankind to remove all the impediments in the path of peace process through designing appropriate growth models. It will also facilitate narrowing down the cultural differences among the civ1lizations, adapting to political, economic and social changes over time. Vitality of the civilizations comprising linguistically and morally unified communities will be transformed into universal empire from the present age of conflict, by adoption of the path of development designed holistically from seven sources of peace.

Human history is dotted with innumerable events when surfaced after war or violent outbursts within which the seed of violence is hidden in dormant state. In the earliest opportunity of clashes of interests in the human organization, the seed is germinated spreading hatred and violence in human society. The recent terrorist attack on humanity on September 11' 2001 is one such example which has initiated an offensive measure as "America's New War". Rather it is the "World's New War" in search of peace. This new war besides eliminating destructive forces as reactive responses should also design proactive measures for a secured future; failing which there will not be decisive shift in the human society free of such violent outbursts.
