A bank manager was making a tour of his bank. He stopped by one of the employees. “How long have you been working for me?” he asked. “Thirty five years,” said the employee proudly, “and in all that time I have made just one silly mistake.” The manager shook his hand and said, “as of today I want you to be more careful.” “Well,” said the employee “I would be stupid if I allow my hand to touch the alarm button over the cash vault again.” A party of American advertising men visiting Britain were allowed to watch convocation at work. When the session broke up one of them managed to buttonhole the Archbishop. He was talking to him for some time. At lunch the bishops asked their leader what it was all about. “He offered to give the church several million dollars if I would authorise a minor change in the wording of the Lord’s Prayer,” said the Archbishop. “We could certainly make good use of the money,” one bishop put in. “What exactly did he want you to do?” “Well” said the archbishop, “all he wanted was a little minor change. In fact, he only wanted one word taken out and put in two. All he wanted was to change ‘Give us this day our daily bread’ to be adjusted to read ‘Give us this day our daily Royal Crackers’”. “The love of money is the root of all evil” remarked another bishop.
