The ABC's of Building and Marketing a Columbarium Wall

For years there have been many articles written about cremation and columbarium walls; yet very little has been written about planning and building a columbarium wall. thus, we created this book as a guide and reference for anyone, professional or lay person, who wants to know more about the process and possibilities. Cremation is increasing by more than 20 percent a year in the U.S. and Canada. Cemeteries are running out of space; land is becoming scarce and more expensive; and environmental concerns question the wisdom and efficiency of using ever more land for new cemeteries. Although the scattering of cremains is the answer for some, there is a need to provide columbarium walls with niches to accommodate the growing number of inurnments. these niches can also provide for plaques of commemoration for those inurned there. A columbarium wall is the solution. A columbarium wall is the building, wall, or architecturally designed facility that has many niches into which urns are placed. this book includes plans for building a columbarium wall so that it will complement the architectural design of a church, cemetery, funeral home chapel, or community. In addition, the book offers the least expensive way to build the wall with niches using bricks and cinder blocks. While we include actual designs for a columbarium wall, we suggest that you contact a local architect and engineering firm to make sure that your special needs are met in the construction phase. Please remember to obtain the proper permits from your local government. It makes sense that almost every church, or funeral home chapel should have a columbarium wall with niches in the near future.
