Early in the morning, I have a special quest
Nothing in the world is better than this guest
Though not really a visitor because He is always here
But quality time together as I meet Him with cheer
My heart stills to listen in the quiet of this time
God has many children, but for now He is all mine
He never fails to meet me and He is never late
It still amazes me that He keeps our kitchen date
Not a question goes unanswered or a prayer unheard
All of life’s answers are revealed through His word
So early in the morning, I’ll meet my awesome guest
And live another day as He tells me what’s best
FAT
Oh Fat, Oh Fat, Won’t you go away
I diet and go without, but you continue to stay
The scales daily laugh – practically yell
Ending each morning’s walk to the kitchen scales of hell
I can drink a gallon of water to melt this excess mass
Yet my stomach only grows as I wear a bathroom path
My calories are being counted as I add them to my list
Though occasionally I forget to add that tiny Hershey Kiss
Friends go out to eat while I walk around the park
They look so thin and happy – I could pose for Noah’s Ark
Oh Fat, What will it take to rid you? Why do you love me so?
For all you do is frustrate me and I just want you to go
I hope there is no hard feelings for you’ve stuck with me for years
Though my constant companion, I’m ready for you to disappear
So listen to me Fat – I no longer want to play!
I’m telling you for the last time, Go, Go Away!
SHADOW OF A MANGER
In the shadow of the cross lies a humble manger
With the crown of thorns, love returned all anger
The precious blood spilled with water so holy
He freely bled for those who treated Him coldly
Did His innocent eyes know they would see hate?
Did His perfect body know the pain it would take?
Did His mother know her baby’s life was at stake?
Or what a difference for all His death would make?
BLUE DAYS OF WINTER
Blue days of Winter
Slinking shadows unaware
Sap joy for living
Life hard to bear
Light quenched by darkness
Heat battles the cold
Holidays approaching
Tears uncontrolled
Blue Days of Winter
Come knocking every year
Mocking smiles of summer
Thickening atmosphere
It’s Satan’s backdrop
To torture lonely souls
Sending thoughts of sadness
Blue wretched foe
ALONE
The clocks laugh each second they tick
My eyes can’t stand another chick flick
Tears fought back with food and a smoke
Thought of a friend seems like a bad joke
Lock all the doors and lights turn low
Dress down – there is no place to go
The phone rings but me, me they do not know
I do not want to talk – just want them to go
Wishing the cushions would just swallow me
Hide me from myself and don’t let me see
This condition to which I’m accustomed to
Enjoying the routine of feeling so blue
I have gone too far to turn back now
If someone does love me – I don’t see how
Any sympathy now would be all that I need
To cause this heavy waterfall to bleed
Not sure I would want to really change
Being alone can be a quite comfortable range

About the Book

The chapter on Depression may appear embellished, especially to those who do not understand the disease of depression. But to those dealing with depression, it brings words to feelings and a friend to the lonely. The book ends with the enlightening Family flowering. Like a lecture, each carries away a connotation that is personal, and when compared to others, a different impression. All are riding the same vapor of existence, so take from this book what you will and share the rest.
About the Author
Robyn Dotson Hess of Western North Carolina was raised in a Christian home with three siblings. Journaling began at age fifteen and has proven to be an essential ingredient of her life. Through writing, Robyn, was able to discern truth from lies in unhealthy relationships.
Robyn discovers the truth about God's word as she experiences His presence in her life. Hopefully, her experiences will encourage others who might be living in abusive situations, with the disease of depression, or simply need uplifted.
