AuthorHouse Employee is State ‘Volunteer of the Year’
Publishing Company’s HR Director Honored by Indiana Chamber of Commerce
Bloomington, Ind. -- On Nov. 10, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce held its annual award ceremony to recognize those individuals who play a vital role in the state’s business and economic well-being. Among the honorees for 2005 was AuthorHouse Director of Human Resources Chris Schrader.
Schrader was acknowledged as a Volunteer of the Year during ceremonies that culminated in the Chamber’s Fall Board of Directors and Annual Membership meetings. A veteran member of the Chamber’s Congressional Affairs, Health Care and Human Resources/Employment Law policy committees who has testified before the Indiana General Assembly, Schrader’s achievements include helping to revise the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and to mitigate OSHA ergonomic regulations. He is an active participant on all the committees.
“If HR folks are perceived by employees as biased in consideration of management, they cannot be effective,” he said. “It’s the same if they can’t connect with management about what drives the business.”
Schrader, who majored in political science and gained business experience in several positions in Washington, D.C., be fore returning to Indiana to pursue a career in HR, brings a wealth of expertise to his efforts on behalf of the Chamber. In turn, the relationships and experience gleaned from his time spent as a Chamber volunteer provide Schrader with valuable insight for his position as director of HR for the world’s leading self-publishing company.
“I get such a significant sense of personal reward when I know we’ve hired the right person for the job and put them in a position to succeed,” he noted.
Schrader was joined by Dr. Martin Jischke, president of Purdue University, and Dick Miller, president of MMM Invest, Inc., as a recipient of this year’s award. More than 1,200 business, civic and political leaders attended the event at the Indiana Convention Center. Indiana Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Brinegar praised each honoree for their recognition of how improving the state’s business climate coincides with residents’ quality of life.
“Diligence, extraordinary effort and a desire to see Indiana move forward are [their] shared attributes,” Brinegar said. “We sincerely appreciate their dedication and vision.”
