Leading self-publisher to sponsor two-day festival to help authors the Manitou Springs Public Library

(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. – October 17, 2007) – AuthorHouse, the world’s leading self-publishing company, will sponsor Authorfest of the Rockies 2007, an event featuring two days of workshop sessions focusing on “Writing as Art.” Award-winning authors, illustrators, poets, editors and publishers will come together for this event at The Cliff House Hotel in Manitou Springs, Colo., Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20.

This event will serve as a fundraiser for the purpose of restoring, preserving and expanding the almost 100 year-old Carnegie building, which sits in the middle of historic Manitou Springs. The fundraising effort will help in reaching the library’s goal of being renovated and expanded by 2010.

“In addition to generating funds for library restoration, Authorfest is a great opportunity for aspiring authors to participate in workshops, listen to knowledgeable speakers and find a publisher or agent,” said Bryan Smith, president and CEO of AuthorHouse..”We’re pleased to sponsor this event to raise awareness for the Manitou Springs Public Library.”

AuthorHouse Authorfest of the Rockies will also feature various Colorado workshop authors and presenters who will offer sessions on topics pertinent to authors and those who are interested in writing a book. AuthorHouse’s Tom Britt is leading a session on the economics of publishing that will explore how much investment it takes to get a book published.  He will also explain the differences between traditional publishing, vanity publishing and self-publishing; giving authors advice on how to select the best publishing option for them.  An accomplished book marketer himself, Britt will also participate in a panel on marketing and sales tips for authors.

In addition to listening to keynote speakers and attending workshop sessions, participants can enjoy a poetry contest for children and adults, an art gallery walk, poetry readings and an Author Showcase for book-signings. All registered participants will be entered into a drawing for a $1000.00 publishing package donated by AuthorHouse.

One author who will be present at the two-day event is Dr. Michael Maddox, of Colorado Springs. Dr. Maddox has received national recognition, from both church and secular authorities, for his work as a counselor in the disciplines of marital issues, substance abuse, sexual addictions, at-risk youth and providing guidance to artists. He has published several books on these topics through AuthorHouse.
